Clinical Psychology Assessments, EEG assessments, Psychotherapy and Counselling

We offer a full suite of Psychology Services and Assessments

 

OUR Services include:

  • Clinical Assessments (e.g. ADHD diagnosis)

  • Cognitive Assessments (e.g. IQ testing)

  • Attainment Assessments (e.g. Reading, Spelling, etc)

  • Educational Assessments (E.G. Assessments for Dyslexia)

  • Assessments of Brain Function using quantitative EEG (3D functional brain imaging)

  • Groups and workshops for parents and teachers/educators

    (e.g. Helping Your Child Manage Anxiety)

  • Online training courses (e.g. helping your child to understand anxiety and how to deal with it)

All of our assessments take place at the Actualise Clinic in DCU Alpha. We sometimes may have to liaise with a Teacher or other Professional. Following your assessment, you will have a feedback appointment where we will explain all the results to you. You will also receive a report which you can bring to your doctor, school or the HSE.

Clinical Psychology Assessment (CHILD)

This is the correct type of assessment if you are concerned about your child’s emotional or behavioural development. This may be angry outbursts, anxiety, refusing to go to school, problems in making friends, appearing hyperactive, being aggressive etc.

The assessment is completed over a number of visits.

What does the assessment entail?

It will generally involve some combination of the following:

  • Interviews

    • With Parents

    • With Child

    • Teacher/Other Professional (if relevant)

  • Questionnaires

    • Standardised questionnaires completed by the child themselves (depending on age), parents and Teachers (as appropriate)

  • Direct Assessment

    • Standardised measures (e.g. learning, cognitive, IQ, adaptive functioning)

    • Direct observation at school (as appropriate)

  • Feedback appointment

    • To explain results and to discuss your options and/or potential referrals

These assessments, depending on what is required, cost between €600 - €800.

Clinical Psychology Assessment (ADULT)

This is the correct type of assessment if you are worried about problems with attention, concentration etc, and/or feel that you are not able to fulfil your own potential because of these issues. For example, you may suspect that you have undiagnosed ADHD.

The assessment is completed over a number of visits.

What does the assessment entail?

It will generally involve some combination of the following:

  • Interviews

    • With you

    • A family member/someone who knows you well

  • Questionnaires

    • Standardised questionnaires

  • Direct Assessment

    • Standardised measures (e.g. cognitive, IQ)

    • Computerised measure of attention

  • Feedback appointment

    • To explain results and to discuss your options and/or potential referrals

These assessments, depending on what is required, cost between €800-1000.

 

Cognitive Assessment

Cognitive Assessments are not often done on their own, but rather form part of a broader assessment.

This is part of the assessment you need if there is a concern about your child’s learning. They may be struggling at school, not reaching their potential or there may be some question about their IQ. This kind of assessment can lead to recommendations about supports in the classroom, or particular types of classes which might be best for your child.

What does the assessment entail?

It will generally involve some combination of the following:

  • Interviews

    • With Parents

    • With Child

    • Teacher/Other Professional (if relevant)

  • Questionnaires

    • Standardised questionnaires completed by the child themselves (depending on age), parents and Teachers (as appropriate)

  • Direct Assessment

    • Standardised measures (e.g. cognitive, IQ)

  • Feedback appointment

    • To explain results and to discuss your options and/or potential referrals

These assessments cost €500

Educational Psychology Assessments

You will generally require this type of assessment if you are worried about some aspect of your child’s education or schooling. Perhaps they are struggling with certain subjects or with reading/writing. This type of assessment can help identify specific learning difficulties like Dyslexia.

The assessment is completed over a number of visits. Sometimes, this is the type of report which can grant a language exemption (e.g. Irish exemption).

What does the assessment entail?

Interviews

  • With Parents

  • With Child

  • Teacher/Other Professional (if relevant)

  • Questionnaires

    • Standardised questionnaires completed by the child themselves (depending on age), parents and Teachers (as appropriate)

  • Direct Assessment

    • Standardised measures (e.g. learning, cognitive, IQ, adaptive functioning)

    • Direct observation at school (as appropriate)

  • Feedback appointment

    • To explain results and to discuss your options and/or potential referrals

These assessments, depending on what is required, cost between €600 - €1000.


 

Therapy sessions

  • Adult: we work with adults using a range of approaches, drawing especially from:

    • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

    • Contextual CBT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy) approaches.

  • Children: these sessions may include the child, parents and children, or parents alone, as required.

These sessions cost €100 each, or €80 if you are attending for neurofeedback
